  2. 1. Queen Salome was a Hasmonean queen who, unlike the rest of the Hasmonean rulers, believed in the Oral Torah and lived a very pious lifestyle. (It is said that she was so pious that it would rain would fall constantly and the people were prosperous.) On top of that, she adopted many policies that encouraged and assisted her people in living pious lifestyles as well.
    2. She established Jewish elementary schools all over Judea. She also removed the Tzedukim from the Sanhedrin and replaced them with Perushim. The Perushim were the greatest scholars of the time and created a just court for the people of Judea. She also increased the size of the army and fortified many cities along Judea's borders.
    3. Rabbi Shimon ben Setach
    4. The Pharisees were a group of people whose ideology clashed with that of the Sadducees. They believed in a pious lifestyle (according to both the Torah and the Oral Torah). Queen Salome Alexandra replaced the Sadducees in the Sandhedrin with the Pharisees. The Pharisees ruled justly in the Sanhedrin and helped encourage a Jewish lifestyle in Judea.
    5. There are several similarities between Salome and Ezra and Nechemia. The most obvious one is that they both promoted Judaism in Judea. Before they arrived in the scene, the Jews of Judea were straying off the path of Judaism. Under their guidance/rule, Judaism was strongly reestablished there. (Unfortunately, Queen Salome's successor basically invited the Romans into Judea, which ended the period of Jewish sovereignty.)

  6. 1. Queen Salome Alexandra was a wise, pious ruler. She supported the oral tradition and followed in the ways of the Torah. While she ruled, her people and land were prosperous and it was said that G-d blessed the soil to make the soil produce more/better crops.
    2. She removed the Sadducees (who did not believe in the Oral tradition), from the Sanhedrin and replaced them with the greatest scholars of the generation. She established Jewish schools in every town so all of the children could be educated and would be instilled with the Torah values. She improved the justice system by making sure all dishonest/corrupt judges were removed from the system and made sure all witnesses were carefully investigated (to prove they were honest/sincere).
    3. Rabbi Shimon ben Setach
    4. The Pharisees were the "orthodox believers". They believed in the Torah and in the oral tradition. During the rule of her husband, Alexander Jannai many of the Pharisees were persecuted. When Queen Salome Alexandra began her rule, she replaced the Sadducees (those who didn't believe in the oral or Jewish traditions) with the Pharisees in the Sanhedrin.
    5. The major similarity here is that both Queen Salome and Ezra and Nechemia encouraged the Jewish lifestyle and beliefs. The Jews had been slowly becoming less faithful in G-d and less concerned about Judaism. Queen Salome, Ezra, and Nechemia helped bring many Jews back onto the path of Judaism and reunited the people with G-d.
